YOUR IDENTITY CAN BE STOLEN BY DOING THIS!

Researchers at Japan’s National Institute of Informatics (NII), flashing the peace sign puts you at risk for identity theft. It turns out that fingerprints can actually be read from a photo that was taken up to nine feet away, so when you flash both your index and middle fingers together at the camera, and if your fingers are in focus, you’re making it easy for someone to copy your identity.

One of the researchers, Isao Echizen, explained their findings. “Just by casually making a peace sign in front of a camera, fingerprints can become widely available,” Echizen said.

Considering that fingerprint technology is becoming more and more popular, this information is definitely concerning. Many phones and computers – like the iPhone – offer fingerprint security features. If someone were to steal your fingerprints, they might be able to access other information – as well as your personal belongings.
