How to Build a Twin Bed Frame

Our kids needed some new beds so I searched the internet and found some plans that seemed perfect to build the twin beds.  I found these on https://woodgears.ca.  Check them out for more great ideas. This DIY twin bed frame is a beginner-friendly woodworking project that’s perfect for kids’ rooms, guest rooms, or even small spaces. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also get a sturdy, custom bed frame that fits your style perfectly. In this step-by-step guide, I’ll show you how to build a twin bed frame from scratch using simple materials and basic tools.

Materials Needed

Part Quantity Used for
2×8 x 8′ 3 * Side rails, also bottom horizontal for headboard and footboard.
2×3 x 8′ 3 * For making the posts
2×10 x 8′ 1 * For headboard top horizontal, and footboard top horizontal
2×2 x 8′ 2 Supports for slats on side rails
1×4 x 8′ 6 For slats
3/4″ dowel 6′ For cutting dowels from. Buy enough lengths to get 6′
2.5″ #10 wood screw 24 For mounting side rails
2.5″ #10 wood screw 10 For screwing slat supports onto side rails
Wood glue 100ml At least 100 ml of wood glue.

Tools You’ll Need

  • Drill or impact driver
  • Saw (circular saw or miter saw)
  • Measuring tape
  • Level
  • Clamps (optional but helpful)
